Helen Bates Heizer, 88, of Memphis, Tennessee died on May 16, 2017. Born on February 12, 1929 in Murphysboro, Illinois, Helen was the last child of the late Harry & Nola Wischem Bates. A graduate of the St. Louis Hospital School of Nursing, Helen was a Registered O.R. Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic church where she was also a member and Past President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Helen Bates Heizer, 88, of Memphis, Tennessee died on May 16, 2017. Born on February 12, 1929 in Murphysboro, Illinois, Helen was the last child of the late Harry & Nola Wischem Bates. A graduate of the St. Louis Hospital School of Nursing, Helen was a Registered O.R. Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic church where she was also a member and Past President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. The family will gather at Memphis Funeral Home on Friday, the 19th of May from five o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening with rosary prayer being read at seven o'clock. The funeral mass will be on Saturday, the 20th of May beginning at ten o'clock in the morning at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1425 E. Shelby Drive, Memphis, TN 38116. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery. Beside her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Heizer Taber. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Arnold F. Heizer; sons Steven (Carol Ann) Heizer and Dave (Linda) Heizer, daughter Sharon (Larry) Lancaster; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a host of niece and nephews.
